Callum Pointon arrived at Brands Hatch with a colossal championship lead, but Ben Green was determined to keep the title fight alive for as long as possible. Green kicked things off pole position in qualifying thanks to a 1:29.943s lap by the Century Motorsport car.
Mitchell, Jones, Hibbert, Gamble completed the top five, with points leader Pointon ending the session in seventh. Constable took pole in the Am class, a crucial additional point for his championship challenge with White, who had qualified just behind in second.
In the race, Green had an almost untroubled lights-to-flag victory whilst behind Jones and Mitchell swapped positions, with Jones finishing second ahead of his Rob Boston Racing team mate. Hibbert dropped backt o seventh in the race, meaning Gamble, Boardley and Pointon completed the top six in that order after little challenging between the trio.
In the Am class, Constable dropped down the field at the start after his Xentek Motorsport teammate Minshaw ended up in the gravel at Druids and brought about the safety car. On the restart, White managed the gap to Constable, keeping birthday boy Perez between the pair.
As racing continued, White crept further up the Pro field, after battling with Pro’s Baker and Somerfield. Constable settled for second in class and hung on to the championship lead. Just behind, Toby Bearne finished third in class, just behind Higgins, who was last of the Pros.
Race two of the weekend gets underway tomorrow (Sunday 1 October) at 2pm, wth live coverage starting on ITV4 from 10.30am.
