Tom Golding won the final race of the Ginetta Racing Drivers Club 2017 season, solidifying his status as the series’ most successful driver this year.
He started from pole behind Bond To, with Saturday race winner Tom Sibley being put back 10 places on the grid by stewards after contact in that event.
The first lap went smoothly for most of the field, but there was a spin for Graeme Bishopp at Stirlings. Although he got going again, he was again off track next time through Paddock Hill Bend, which required the deployment of the safety car to allow his car to be recovered.
Once the green flags flew again, some great battles immediately erupted, with Dimitri Sedashev initially fending off Jimmy Thompson for third and Hatton doing the same from Sibley for fifth, but Sibley pulled of a mega move to vault straight into third, where he’d stay until the flag.
With Golding and To established up front, the main interest then switched to the battle for fourth, involving Thompson, Hatton, Sedashev, Forbes and now also Mike West. There multiple passes and passing attempts as the clock wound down and on the final lap Forbes and West found themselves off track as the pack exited Graham Hill Bend.
That left Thompson, Hatton and Sedashev fourth, fifth and sixth behind the top three, with Forbes and West seventh and eighth, Robert Pugsley and Mark Seymour ninth and 10th and Steve Birt and James Townsend rounding out the finishers in 11th and 12th.
